WHAT

This club is equal parts choose-your-own-adventure, walking and biking safety lessons, wayfinding and neighborhood mental mapping and having fun!

WHO

5th - 8th graders

WHEN

September 15 - December 15, Mondays, 3:30-6:30. On no-school days, we will meet on Fridays. After daylight savings on Nov 2, we will walk and our time will be shortened to 2 hours. See specific dates below. Once registration is confirmed, Megan will send a Google calendar invite.

WHERE

Meet in Hood River Middle School library, explore around campus and within 2 miles of school by foot or bike

FREE. Suggested donation of $70/student to cover snacks

WEATHER

Our plans will be flexible based on Mother Nature, but generally we will adopt the "no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing" attitude. When it's wet and cold, it's really important that the students have a rain jacket, base layer and water resistant footwear.

TRANSPORTATION

There is a free bus to bring your child home anywhere in the district at 5:20pm from the Hood River Middle School

Choose-Your-Own-Adventure

Students will have fun taking walks (skateboarding optional) or bike rides to their favorite places around Hood River with a musical soundtrack of their own choosing. They will help plan the route, ride or walk to the destination and receive a treat or gift card from local businesses they visit. Along the way, we will learn the laws and etiquette for walking and biking and how to navigate or avoid tricky intersections. They will also learn to have a sense of direction and the safest routes for getting around town. We will map out their home, the school, friend’s houses and major landmarks.

QUÉ

Este club ofrece a partes iguales "elige tu propia aventura", clases de seguridad para caminar y andar en bicicleta, orientación, mapas mentales del vecindario y ¡diversión!

QUIÉN

Alumnos de 5.º a 8.º grado

CUÁNDO

Del 15 de septiembre al 15 de diciembre, lunes, de 15:30 a 18:30. Los días sin clases, nos reuniremos los viernes. Después del horario de verano del 2 de noviembre, caminaremos y el tiempo se reducirá a 2 horas. Consulta las fechas específicas a continuación. Una vez confirmada la inscripción, Megan te enviará una invitación de Google Calendar.

DÓNDE

Nos reuniremos en la biblioteca de la Escuela Secundaria Hood River. Explora el campus y un radio de 3 kilómetros de la escuela a pie o en bicicleta.

CLIMA

Nuestros planes serán flexibles según las circunstancias, pero generalmente adoptaremos la filosofía de "no hay mal tiempo, solo ropa inadecuada". Cuando llueve y hace frío, es fundamental que los estudiantes cuenten con un impermeable, una capa interior y calzado impermeable.

TRANSPORTE

Hay un autobús gratuito para llevar a su hijo a casa en cualquier lugar del distrito a las 5:20 p. m. desde la Escuela Secundaria Hood River.

Elige tu propia aventura

Los estudiantes se divertirán caminando (con patineta opcional) o en bicicleta a sus lugares favoritos de Hood River con la música que elijan. Ayudarán a planificar la ruta, irán en bicicleta o caminando a su destino y recibirán un obsequio o una tarjeta de regalo de los negocios locales que visiten. Durante el recorrido, aprenderán las normas de conducta para caminar y andar en bicicleta, y cómo navegar o evitar intersecciones complicadas. También aprenderán a orientarse y las rutas más seguras para moverse por la ciudad. Mapearemos su casa, la escuela, las casas de sus amigos y los lugares más emblemáticos.
