After School Clay Club
When: Tuesday Group 2:30-4:30pm
Ages: 7-11 years old
Cost: If students arrive to the studio at 2:30pm: $30/day.
If Kate picks students up directly from May Street Elementary School at dismissal and walks students to the studio or if students come directly from May Street Elementary School dismissal on their own: $40/day.
Description: Participants will explore the fundamentals of handbuilding with clay through projects and games. Students will learn the basic methodologies of handbuilding with clay, in other words without the use of a pottery wheel. We will cover the practices of pinch pots, coil building, slab building, and sculpting and then developing those skills and learning how to plan and create complex projects. We will also learn about the science of glaze and various methods for applying glaze to finished projects. All of the materials & kiln costs are included in the lesson fee. Students should bring a Clay Club snack and water bottle.
Participants must purchase their month's worth of Clay Club meetings upfront before the start of each month. Payment can be made via cash, check, or Venmo. Refunds will not be provided. In the event of an absence, the missed meeting will be credited for future use. Clay Club will not take place on days when school is not in session.
