Summer in the Gorge is something special—long days, endless opportunities to be outside, and so many ways for kids to explore, create, and grow. If you're like most parents, you're also thinking about how to keep your kids active, engaged, and (mostly) off screens. We’ve rounded up some of the best summer camps across the Gorge—from outdoor adventures and sports to art, STEM, and nature-based programs. Whether you’re looking for a few fun weeks or trying to piece together a full summer plan, this guide is designed to help you quickly find options that fit your child’s interests, age, and energy level.

Outdoor & Adventure Camps

🌲 Explorer Camps (Ages 6–10)

Full day nature-based outdoor camps invite kids to explore, create, and connect in a forest setting through hands-on activities, storytelling, and play. Each week features a unique theme while blending outdoor adventure, creativity, and community-building.

🌄 Adventure Camp (Ages 8–14)

This outdoor adventure camp blends exploration, adventure sports, and leadership development—all set in the incredible landscapes of the Gorge. Each day, campers head to a new location for hands-on experiences and team-based activities.

Mitchell Point Summer Camp 

Mitchell Point Summer Camp offers an immersive outdoor experience for kids 7-14.  Kids will explore, build, and learn through hands-on adventure. Set on a private 8-acre property overlooking the Columbia River, this camp blends nature, science, and creativity in a truly unique setting.

Ekone Ranch Summer Camps 

(Ages 8–18)

Ekone Ranch offers immersive, week-long overnight camps where kids and teens connect with horses, nature, creativity, and community. Set on a beautiful working ranch, these camps emphasize confidence, responsibility, leadership and meaningful experiences in a supportive environment.

Late June – Mid August (multiple week-long sessions)

  • Young Rider Camp (Ages 8–12): A gentle, beginner-friendly intro to riding and ranch life
  • Horse Connection (Ages 12–18): Ground-based work focused on communication, confidence, and connection (no riding)
  • Leadership Camp (Ages 14-18):  Hands-on leadership camp where teens build real-world skills, gain work experience, and develop confidence through immersive ranch and camp life
  • All Girls Camp (Ages 10-18): Ekone’s signature horse camp with daily riding, hands-on horsemanship, and a mix of ranch life, crafts, swimming, and outdoor adventure in a supportive, all-girls environment
  • Theater Camp (Ages 10-16): Explore acting, improv, and storytelling while collaborating on a final performance in a fun, nature-based camp setting

Mt. Hood Meadows

Summer Camps (Age 2.5 -11)

Spend the summer up on the mountain with these flexible, outdoor-focused day camps at Mt. Hood Meadows. With options for younger kids and older campers, these programs combine nature, play, and hands-on activities in a beautiful alpine setting.

Mountain Scouts (Ages 2.5–5)
A playful, outdoor preschool camp where kids explore the mountain through a mix of free play, art, and hands-on STEM activities—building friendships, confidence, and a love for nature in a fun, nurturing setting

Mountain Explorers (Ages 6–11)
An active, outdoor camp where kids enjoy hikes, scenic chair rides, STEM projects, and creative activities—building confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while spending plenty of time playing and exploring on the mountain

What to expect:

  • Lots of outdoor time in a mountain setting
  • A mix of structured activities and free play
  • STEM projects, art, and nature exploration
  • Optional transportation from Hood River (add-on)

Parents are welcome to stay and work remotely from the lodge or enjoy the surrounding trails while kids are in camp.

Brimstone Boulders 

🧗 Indoor Climbing Camp (Ages 5–9)

This active, play-based camp introduces kids to the fundamentals of climbing in a fun and supportive environment. Through games and hands-on instruction, participants will build skills, confidence, and a love for movement.

🏔️ Adventure Climbing Camp – Level 1 (Ages 8–12)

This outdoor adventure camp blends climbing, hiking, and exploration across some of the Gorge’s most beautiful locations. Campers will spend part of the week building skills in the gym, then take those skills outside for real rock climbing and outdoor fun.

🏔️ Adventure Climbing Camp – Level 2 (Ages 10+)

Designed for kids with prior climbing experience, this advanced adventure camp takes skills to the next level with more time spent climbing outdoors. Campers will build on their technique and rope skills before heading out to explore real rock in the Gorge.

Summer Kidz Camp (Ages 6–12)

Summer Kidz Camp is a fun, community-focused day camp where kids can play, explore, and be themselves. Each week features a new theme with a mix of outdoor games, creative projects, team challenges, sports, and choice-based activities.

Heartsong Living Arts

School of Send offers skill-based mountain biking camps for a wide range of ages and abilities—from strider riders just getting started to advanced riders looking to progress on jumps and features. All camps are coached by certified instructors and take place on local Post Canyon trails.

Summer Walk & Roll Club

June 25 – August 20 | Thursdays
Meeting Location: Hood River Middle School Track
Cost: Pay what you can ($0–$100) – includes snacks. 

Led by local active transportation advocate Megan Ramey, the Summer Walk & Roll Club invites middle schoolers (5th - 8th graders) to explore the Gorge on two wheels, by foot, and even by transit! 

Each Thursday, the group will adventure to local destinations, build confidence navigating the area, and enjoy fresh air and movement with friends.

Summer Sailing Camps

Spend the summer on the water with weekly sailing camps designed to build skills, confidence, and a love for wind sports. With a variety of session options throughout the summer, there’s something for all experience levels.

Wingfoil Camps (Ages 9–18)

Wylde Wind & Water offers progressive wingfoil camps designed to help youth build skills, confidence, and water safety—from first-time riders to more advanced foilers.

Wingfoil Youth Introduction Camp (Beginner)
A great starting point for kids who are new to wingfoiling. Campers learn the fundamentals of wind, water safety, and equipment, building confidence before progressing onto foil boards.

Curious about wingfoiling? This free weekly event is a great way for families to try one of the fastest-growing water sports—no experience or registration required.

Free Weekly Community Paddle (SUP)

Enjoy the water with this free, family-friendly stand-up paddleboarding event—open to all ages and experience levels. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned paddler, this is a fun and welcoming way to get out on the water and connect with the community.

Big Winds 

Windsurf & Wing Surf Camp (Ages 7–14)

This long-running, beginner-friendly camp introduces kids to windsurfing and wing surfing in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Held in a protected lagoon at The Hook, it’s a great way for kids to build confidence on the water and learn new skills.

Creative & Performing Arts

Fruit Loops Art Center

Fruit Loops offers a playful series of themed art camps designed to spark creativity, curiosity, and hands-on fun all summer long. Each week features a unique theme—from tie dye and clay creations to invention labs and parade-making—giving kids the chance to explore, experiment, and bring their ideas to life. Select sessions also include special collaborations, like aerial + art camps with Empowered Movement, and opportunities to participate in community events like the 4th of July parade.

K-5 Tie Dye - June 16-18

What's a better way to start your summer than with TIE DYE!  A crowd favorite camp from the last four summers, we're bringing it back and we're eager to get some color explosions on shirts and things. We always block out time for kids to bring items from home and we have some other tie dye projects on our minds. The best way to start summer!  We'll be creating in the art center and visiting the library lawn for lunch and playing. We can't wait! 

K-5 Aerial + Art - June 23-25
We are so excited to offer our first ever all day arts camp in collaboration with Empowered Movement Aerial! This camp combines performing and hands on arts for kids who have a lot of physical and creative energy :)

K-5 Parade - June 30-July 2

This is our third year doing a camp all about our summer highlight- the 4th of July Parade! This camp will be all things parade. We will work on projects for the Fruit Loops Parade Float and might even have a little mini parade at fruit loops! All of the participants of the camp are invited to walk with us in the parade with a parent, sibling, or two and hand out candy on July 4th. 

K-5 Prop (collab w/EMA) -July 7-9

We are so excited to join theatre makers and aeralists for their annual summer performance at Jackson Park! Artists will be designing, creating, and collaborating on props to be used by performers. We'll do lots of painting and take breaks for crafting and playing, of course. This camp is awesome for a kid who loves theatre but doesn't necessarily want perform. There are so many ways to participate in theatre arts!

Calling all inventors! Do you have an amazing idea you'd like to design and build? Join us for this Shark Tank inspired camp where we'll turn your ideas into imaginative crafted inventions that our aquatic investors are sure to love. 

K-5 Rock Pets in Tiny Town - July 21-23

Design and create your very own perfect pet! If you love painting and creating little homes or habitats then this class is for you. During this class we’ll learn how to design, paint with acrylic, and seal our very own Rock Pets, as well as create their own cozy environment! Campers love the adoption ceremony which is a very special event! 

K-5 Glue + Goo - July 28-30

Are you looking for art experiences that will engage your senses, ignite your curiosity, and unleash your creativity? Join us in the lab! We're mixing science and art to make some of your favorite tactile art projects like fizzy painting and slime. This camp is perfect for anyone who loves all things gooey and gluey! 

K-5 Process Painting - August 4-6

There are so many ways to get creative with paint! Process painting allows you to break all the rules, go on a journey of inspiration, experience the joy of painting and freedom of self expression. Together we’ll explore different types of paint, tools, techniques, and most importantly build confidence through creative process!

K-5 Clay Cook-Off - August 11-13

Chefs, get ready for the Great Clay Cook Off! During this three day camp, our young chefs will learn basic clay building techniques, create exciting and unique menus, and of course sculpt lots of delicious looking clay food that will be presented on the last day of the camp. If you love playing with clay and the fun of cooking shows, then this is the camp for you! 

K-5 Charms and Keychains: Awesome Accessories! - August 18-20

Join us for some of the most classic crafts of all time! This three day camp will be filled with shrinky dinks, beaded animals, and tons of awesome accessories. You'll learn how to design your very own shrinky dink charms that are perfect for keychains, charm bracelets, necklaces, and more!

We are so excited to offer our first ever all day arts camp in collaboration with Empowered Movement Aerial! This camp combines performing and hands on arts for kids who have a lot of physical and creative energy

Missoula Children’s Theatre: The Wiz of the West: June 22 - 26th (performance June 27th

Columbia Center for the Arts is bringing back the Missoula Children’s Theatre for a fun week of acting, creativity, and performance. In just five days, kids will audition, rehearse, and perform Wiz of the West—a playful twist on a classic story.

Who it’s for:
Open to youth entering grades 1–8. No experience needed - everyone who auditions is cast!

Cost:
Free to participate. Families are encouraged to support the program by attending the final performance.
